About 1031 Services, Inc. 1031 Services, Inc. has performed qualified intermediary services under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code for real and personal property transactions in forward exchanges, reverse exchanges, multi-asset exchanges and construction exchanges. We have performed intermediary services for properties in most jurisdictions within the United States and in many foreign countries. We have broad experience with all types of clients and all types of exchanges. Our clients include publicly held companies doing multiple exchanges every year, as well as individuals exchanging their single family rental houses. We have participated in exchanges of all types of properties, such as real estate, artwork, airplanes, equipment, shipping vessels, businesses, licenses, and radio and television stations. The company was founded in 1989 by the late Jeremiah M. Long, the “guru” of IRC §1031 exchanges. In 1992, Jerry and Mary co-authored Tax-Free Exchanges Under §1031, the most comprehensive book on the subject. This work, published by West Publishing, has become the leading treatise and the “Bible” on tax-free exchanges. It contains over 800 pages. Mary continues the publication and annual update of the treatise. > Order book direct from the publisher here In 1996, Mary left her law practice with a Seattle law firm to join Jerry and his company. Together, Jerry and Mary operated the business based on the principle of providing the highest levels of expertise, professionalism, and customer service for their clients. For more than a decade, they co-chaired and spoke at an annual, national two-day seminar on advanced issues in like-kind exchanges. Both were instrumental in the growth of the national organization known as the Federation of Exchange Accommodators (FEA), of which Mary currently serves as President and Board Member. Mary is sought after for advice on tax free exchanges and frequently writes and speaks on the subject. She is active in federal legislative and administrative efforts related to IRC §1031 on behalf of the American Bar Association Taxation Section and the FEA. Before Jerry's death on March 7, 2007, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the FEA. Jerry was a truly gracious man and a great leader of our company and the 1031 industry. Today, Mary and her staff continue to abide by Jerry’s principles of professionalism, integrity and customer service. He is missed by all of us at 1031 Services, Inc.
